The Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation (BTFEC) is an independent grant making organization, mandated by Royal Charter of 1996 “…for the promotion of social welfare through environmental conservation of the forests, flora, fauna, wildlife, diverse ecosystems and biodiversity in Bhutan.” A global pioneer established in 1992, BTFEC is concerned with the Bhutan’s environmental health, and sustainability of program interventions. It uses annual revenue from its endowment to finance environmental initiatives in Bhutan.
BTFEC seeks innovative project proposal(s) related to Rural/Community project that integrates two or more of the following:
a. Alternatives to livelihoods that have adverse environmental impacts
b. Natural resource management
c. Related development issues
d. Awareness of cause and effect from environmentally destructive behavior
e. Direct involvement of community and rural schools
Eligibility: Bhutanese individuals/groups, NGOs and Government Agencies.
All government agencies must route their proposals through Gross National Happiness Commission and for rural communities, it must be routed through the Gup.
Fund available: Nu. 15 million only.
